Star Smashers of the Galaxy Rangers

Harry Harrison

Science Fiction / Fantasy

Harry Harrison was born in Stamford, Connecticut in 1925 and lived in New York City until 1943, when he joined the United States Army. He was a machine-gun instructor during the war, but returned to his art studies after leaving the army. A career first as a commercial illustrator and later as art director and editor for various picture, news, and fiction magazines fitted him only for a lifetime residence in New York, so he changed it for the freelance writer's precarious existence and moved his family to Cuautla, Mexico. Since then he has lived in Kent, Camden, Italy, Denmark, Spain and Surrey; he has now returned to his native land, but he has not ceased to wander. He rationalizes this continual change of residence as essential research, when in reality it is an incurable case of wanderlust that enables him to indulge all his enthusiasms: travel, skiing, practising Esperanto, and making an annual pilgrimage to the Easter Congress of the British Science Fiction Association.

Now he's gotten himself handcuffed to an attache case with two million dollars inside, and stuffed aboard a hijacked DC-10, bound for Scotland, where he's being chased through the countryside by the hijackers, Scots patriots, a crazy Cuban colonel and half the police force. All of them want only two things—the money and Tony's head in a noose.Once again Special Agent Tony Hawkin must rely on his own brand of expertise to outwit and confound a nefarious array of foes. Tony's plan is simple: lead them all back to London, like the Pied Piper of Hamelin, and deposit them at the gates of Scotland Yard. There is just one small problem; London is five hundred miles away, and Tony has no idea which way that is...

West of Eden e-1

Harry Harrison

Science Fiction / Fantasy

About 65 million years ago, it is supposed that dinosaurs disappeared from Earth. But what if they had not been? From a master of imaginative storytelling comes an epic tale of the world as it might have been, a world where the age of dinosaurs never ended, and their descendants clashed with the humans. The story is set in the Americas, where a clan of native humans survives by hunting and fishing. Suddenly they clash with a new race that comes from across the ocean — the lizards who are a much more advanced civilization, progressing not through technology, but through animal-breeding. They breed new kinds of animals, each one serving as a machine designed for a specific purpose. A human teenager is caught by the lizards and survives in their city, first as an animal, then as a prisoner, then as a member of society. Still, his human instincts takes over and he betrays his masters, escapes and leads the humans to destroying the lizard city and driving them back across the sea.
